Scholarships were awarded to six incredible students from Elgin Community College, Carl Sandburg College, College of Lake County, Lincoln Land Community College, and Kishwaukee College.
Awards were given to Emily Buhnerkempe from ICCB for all of the help she has provided to the ICCFA, and Connie McLean from Black Hawk College for her outstanding faculty reputation.
We are excited to continue our partnership with ICCCA for next year’s conference which will again be held at the Embassy Suites in East Peoria next November. Updates will be posted here as we get closer to next year’s conference.
The 2018 Keynote Speakers
Dr. Matthew Hora, Assistant Professor of Adult and Higher Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will present at the ICCCA/ICCFA Opening General Session on Thursday, November 15. The title of his keynote is Beyond the Skills Gap: Preparing College Students for Life and Work in Turbulent Times. Hora is the author of the book of the same title.
Dr. Hora is also the founding Director of the Center for Research on College-Workforce Transitions at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. His research focuses on the cultural aspects of skills development, the impacts of college internships on student outcomes in the US and China, and teaching and learning issues in the college classroom.
Traci Ellis, JD, will present at the ICCCA/ICCFA Closing Luncheon on November 15. Her topic will be Turbulent Times, Drastic Measures: Dismantling Structural Racism, Power, and Privilege for Student Success. Ellis is an attorney and Certified Human Resource Professional and the author of The Exceptional Negro: Racism, White Privilege and the Lie of Respectability Politics.
Ellis spent seven years on the school board of the second largest school district in Illinois and is a fierce social justice activist, especially for educational equity and the disruption of systems of oppression.
