The Illinois Community College Board is the state coordinating board for community colleges and has statutory responsibility for administering state and federal grants to community college districts and adult education providers and managing high school equivalency testing for Illinois. The Illinois Community College Board is assisted by an executive director and staff of approximately 50 located in Springfield and Chicago.

Illinois community colleges serve almost 700,000 residents each year in credit, noncredit, and continuing education courses. Illinois is home to 48 colleges in 39 community college districts which provide high quality, accessible, cost-effective educational opportunities to the entire state.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Division

  • Director for English Language Acquisition: We invite applications for the position of Director for English Language Acquisition. This position will report to the Senior Director for Adult Education and Literacy. This position leads the mission of the Illinois Community College Board and Title II of the Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act through supporting Adult Education programs in their implementation of ELL instruction, workplace literacy initiatives, and outreach and cultural competency.   • Senior Director for Career and Technical Education: We invite applications for the position of Senior Director for Career and Technical Education. This position will report to the Associate Deputy Director for Career and Technical Education. The role involves overseeing the administration and implementation of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Improvement Act (Perkins V). Responsibilities include developing, reviewing, and approving local applications, and making funding recommendations. You will administer the Illinois State Plan for Perkins V, coordinating activities with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and aligning statewide initiatives, acting as the main point of contact with ISBE. Within SUCSS, each position is assigned to a civil service job classification that carries its own specific and distinct set of minimum qualifications. Those job qualifications are used in evaluating each applicants’ educational background and experience in order to determine their eligibility for employment.
