Multiple efforts are occurring in Illinois to reduce remediation including co-requisite remediation and multiple measures placement. This workshop will provide community colleges the time and resources to continue working on plans for implementation of these approaches. Each college is asked to bring a team consisting of its Chief Academic Officer, Chief Student Services Officer, institutional researcher, counselor, a math faculty member, and an English faculty member. The morning will include discussion on multiple measures placement with presentations from Dr. John Hetts, Senior Director of Data Science at Educational Results Partnership, and Dr. Brian Durham, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs with the Illinois Community College Board. The afternoon will include discussions on co-requisite remediation. Time will be provided for colleges to work together as well as break-out sessions to work with smaller constituent groups. Colleges that are currently implementing co-requisite courses will be offering guidance to colleges beginning their work. All colleges, regardless of the level of implementation, will benefit from the workshop’s activities.
At least one member of each team should bring a laptop to access documents that will be provided. Additionally, we suggest you bring an extension cord.
This event will be a working day, so please have your team bring actual documents from your campus that will be used for co-requisite implementation. Below is a sample listing of documents that may be appropriate.
Faculty: syllabus, worksheets, professional development materials
Advisors: flowcharts for disciplines, sample schedules, professional development materials
IR: bring actual data of your student populations, either those currently enrolled in a co-requisite course or those who would be a great target audience.
